Comments:The people of Manchester seem to have very short memories. Just cast your minds back to play-off time at the end of the 1995/96 season and the rather scathing words of Norman de Mesquita in the I.H.N.R.... Mr de Mesquita ripped into John Finnie causing uproar not only among the Storm supporters who had spent the last few months worshipping Finnie as their saviour but also among most of the other Ice Hockey followers who had seen the little American play. Indeed, Mesquita later said he had been over hasty in his judgement. The point is, that back then no-one would say a word against John, and if anyone dared to then hundreds of voices drowned them out as the Manchester Storm faithful pledged their support to their brilliant goalie. So, along came 96/97 and a huge step up from Div 1 to the Superleague, where the standard was far higher than anyone expected. Add to this the number of new faces on the team and you would be expecting the impossible if you thought the Storm were going to have it all their own way again. Look at the games they won though, or hung on in overtime for a draw. Many of these were thanks to heroics in goal from a certain #30.... Take Cardiff away, 13.10.96, Manchester won 3-2, thanks largely to Finnie. Ayr at home, 17.11.96, 6-1, Storms' biggest win of the season, and Turku away, where although the Storm lost 2-1 Finnie faced a massive 61 shots!! And there were more, many more where the only thing between the Storm and humiliation was those lightning clad pads. I am not trying to say he was infallible. Finnie himself would be the first to admit that he had some awful nights, against Basingstoke and Cardiff for example, but there was never a night when he gave anything less than 101%, which is more than can be said for most of the team. Last season the whole team let themselves down. The defence seemed none existant on many nights and the forwards couldn't find the back of the net. They partied hard, and had very relaxed ideas about discipline and half the time looked as if they were only turning up to collect the pay checks....No one person can be blamed for Manchesters' poor showing. Ogden chose to make John Lawless the scapegoat for the team, but the fans seem to be intent on blaming the man who twelve months earlier had been their hero. None of the Storms' goalies did that well last season, Marc Gronau just was not good enough, and Eric Raymond obviously suffered with injuries, but surely no-one can forget that John Finnie played with a broken toe and still managed to put in some match winning performances. In a season of turmoil, and when confidence within the team hit rock bottom you cannot judge any player on statistics alone. You have to look at their whole contribution to the team, and no-one brought more fun and optimism into the locker room than Finnie. His personality ensured the crowd were on his side, and more than that, he was proud to wear his Manchester Storm jersey, and loved playing at the Storm Shelter. It is sad to hear and read those same supporters who would chant his name and clamour for autographs and photos now, suddenly, deciding he was no good. I suppose everyone needs someone to blame, but could any other goalie have done any better in the same circumstances? John Vanbiesbrouck or Mike Richter maybe.... Ice Hockey is about a TEAM coming together and getting it right, not one person, so don't turn your backs on the man you once welcomed with open arms like war heroes of old were welcomed home. It is a cruel world and no-one is perfect but there were a lot of times when John Finnie proved to be the difference between winning and losing. And now it seems he will not be returning to prove once more just how good he is, so I will wish him farewell and all the best, knowing that where-ever he plays it is their enormous gain and a great loss to the Manchester Storm. GOODBYE AND GOOD LUCK JOHNNY 'VEGAS' FINNIE....

Comments:Firstly, to John Finnie, it's a shame you won't be back. We'll miss you, but I hope that you find great success wherever you go, and show KK that he's mad not to bring you back. Know you'll be a star anywhere!! And, to everyone on here slagging John off, well, each to their own, but you obviously don't know much about John if you couldn't see that his performances last season were more to do with the team as a whole than John himself, none of our goalies did that well and at least you always knew John would be giving it all he's got. All the best Batman!! Loads of love, Catwoman. Last season's performance was pretty crap. But in no way was it just the goalies fault, it would have been nice to have a defence! We were ment to play as a team not as individuals. A note to Johnny Vegas, I really don't care what anyone says about last season, we all know you did your best for us and gave 110% at all times, and as far as I'm concerned it's Manchesters loss not yours that your not coming back. Keep your chin up and look forward to the future. Your a hell of a goalie and don't let anyone tell you other-wise. for now VIVA LAS VEGAS!! SEE YA SOON J.V. LUV BATGIRL...

Comments:Message to Martin "Cyclone" Smith. You are not the only one who's more than a little disappointed that you won't be coming back to the Storm. You probably guessed ages ago that you're my favourite player, and things definitely won't be the same without you. All I can say is that we all wish you the very best of luck, whatever you do, wherever you do it (and, I suppose, whoever you do it with! It's obvious that things are going to be very different at the Storm Shelter from here on in, and I quess we'll have to wait and see if "different" means "better". That said, I'm going. I know you don't still have my 'phone number, so I'm not waiting for the call you promised me. All I'll say is that I've behaved myself since Berlin, and it looks like I've got an awful long wait for my prize!! Take car of yourself, Martin, and I realy hope that we'll see you in Manchester again soon.

Comments:Before I rant, rave or complain I would like to say that the storm fans are without a doubt the best ice hockey fans around, and that is on either side of the pond. As I was under the impression when I left that I would be coming back I never got the chance to say thank you or how much I appreciated the fans patience and commitment to the team. I was fortunate enough to get to meet and speak with many, whether it was over a pint at the Arches or by the bus after a road game. I thank you all and will no doubt miss many of you. To the teammates that are staying I wish them the best of luck, and I wish I could be a part of it. To the others I hope you manage to land on a team where perhaps your skills, work ethic and commitment are not overlooked. To Lipper and John I would like to thank for giving me the opportunity to live in a great city and the chance to play in front of fantastic fans. You were both great coaches, and John you certainly should not have been the fall guy. To the new coach, I only hope I get the chance to rub your face in it. Enjoy your summer and I hope to see you all next year.

A few days ago I recieved a letter from the new coach Mr. Kleinendorst stating that my services would no longer be needed. I am very disappointed to say the least as I thought of Manchester as my new home. With 3 games left in last season I was overjoyed when John Lawless told me I would be returning for another season. After he was fired I knew it would be a 50/50 chance I would be back. For weeks I waited, as I Know John Finnie, Davey Smith Jeff Lindsay did, but still no word. Not really a way to treat players that had been there from the start of the storm and especially since I had been told originally I would be returning. At the moment I have no idea where i will be next season. I am currently visiting friends in Florida and will be meeting with Finnie tomorrow. His future also is uncertain. And how about Nicky Poole future/uncertain as well.I talked to him a couple weeks ago and he told me how disappointed he is not to be returning. Well, you never know maybe we will all end up on the same team somewhere else. Thank you Storm fans for all your support. I really enjoyed my time in Manchester and I still say it was the best place I'd ever played. Bye for now, I'll miss you all.

Comments: Congratulations on the initiative test Simon, but I wasn't taken in by the transparent atttempt to keep me off Dreambook....glad to see Storm will actually have some players next season...you could always play an NHL97 fantasy team instead, it would be a lot cheaper. Incidentally there is a Steve Maltais who has played a bit around the NHL and was with Chicago Wolves of the IHL last season...maybe he is a relation..A tough Swede should be a sight to behold..wonder where he keeps his hanky..Welcome home Ms. Jacket. My email addy is wildeg@cadvision.com. Hope you had decent hols and are feeling strong enough to cope with next season... Having seen a preview of Calgary's first two forward lines next season I am seriously thinking of hibernating instead...Cheers Stephanie

Good job I didn't remove this Guestbook! Keep on using this until the other one comes back to life! There about about 10 entries that I didn't manage to transfer to the "copy" before Dreambook went down, so I'll put them there soon. About the Steelers challenge games - we think the away game may be on the night before the home game, but it may be in midweek just before or just after depending on when Steelers make their minds up. There is no news on the B&H Cup yet or the league fixtures except that the Superleague teams will be the same as last year and we are only playing 2 home and 2 away (not 3) because we are having a new cup that includes European clubs after the B&H Cup finishes.

Well, what can I say? My close(t) friend green has jumped to my defence. That will teach you to go around shooting your mouth off, Misconduct. If you think that's bad, you should see her reaction when she's angry! (Believe me, you wouldn't like her when she's angry; why do you think that Jon doesn't wear her much any more?) Whatever you do, if you're going to claim knowledge of green's identity, PLEASE give me prior warning so that I can hide at the other end of the wardrobe! I'm still picking lint out of my ears from the last time she threw a paddy (apologies to all those Irish people out there)! You see, it's easy to pick on me when you think I'm on my own, you just wait until orange comes back from the cleaners, then the fun will REALLY start! All I can say is : BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID! Once she gets her collar up, there's no stopping her! It's the three of us against the world, and I don't fancy your chances! Right, that said, Stephanie, buddy, where are you? I thought that you'd have responded by now. I know where you are in the world after reading previous guestbook messages, so that doesn't matter. If you're in the mood for a bit of a giggle, check out the Sheffield Steelers page (www.steelers.co.uk). I've got a bit of an argument going with someone going by the name of "John Major" (and I thought I was sad!!). Right, must dash. I'm going to shake off some fluff, and then green and I are going to sort out the socks (and green will probably take it out on them, so I hope you're feeling suitably guilty!)

I am aghast, totally shocked and completely flabbergasted. In fact, I can honestly say that my flabber has never been so gasted. The reason for this consternation? I'm glad you asked. I got back from a trip to the dry cleaners - not a particularly salubrious place, too many cheap, tacky suit, but I submit to the humiliation, in order to keep my beloved owner happy - to discover "Misconduct" claiming to be a friend, and also to know the identity of my wardrobe-mate, Yellow. I was so shocked at this audacious claim that I burst a seam and my lapels have gone all limp. Yellow was so convulsed with laughter that 3 buttons poppped off, and what was once crease-free fabric is now somewhat crumpled and dishevelled. Let me assure you, oh guest book readers, that "Misconduct" and I are definitely not friends and, as for knowing Yellow's identity, I think not. I, of course, know said identity, and nothing could drag this secret from me - not even copious amounts of dosh and Stephen Cooper's personal 'phone number. (Well, for Stephen's 'phone number, I would have to give serious thought to betraying this sacred trust.) All I can say on this subject is: OI, MISCONDUCT, NO!!! Yellow's identity is a secret, has always been a secret, and is gonna be a secret FOR EVER !!! And that, I think, is enough on that subject. So, don't believe "Misconduct's" claims, even if the reply is "Yeah, well we know who GJ is, too." because it will be as far from the truth as the Storm were from the top of last season's Superleague table. Changing the subject, I cannot vouch for the accuracy of this rumour, so "don't quote me", but massive rumour has it that a certain former Stormforce events officer was under more pressure than she would have admitted from sources "on high" not to stand for re-election at the recent AGM. Rumours abound of her 'phoning certain members of the coaching staff at home, and becoming something of a nuisance. Also, she allegedly became more and more demanding, culminating in the end of season party at the Arena. Snob value or what? I've not yet met anyone who thought that having the party there was a good idea - it wasn't the best night of my life - and that lousy band was possibly the death knell to her tenure of office. That said, I shall miss her. Well, you miss piles, once they've gone away!! And on that cheery note, I shall take my leave of you.

Here's Jonny!!! Yes, I'm back. I've had loads of trouble catching up on Storm news while I've been away, so I'd be grateful if people will contact me and tell me all they know. Right, where do I start? Misconduct - I'm not sure that you know who I am, but you may do. If possible, could you contact me through E-mail telling me all you know about me. I'd be extremely grateful if you didn't do it on here, as you may be right, and I revel in my anonimity. On the same lines, Stephen Cooper's hair gel, make-up, etc, I realise that you DO know who I am, and I'd be grateful if you didn't reveal my identity. In return, all that I know about you two will be kept close to my chest! Next on the agenda: Kris Miller. I take it that he usually wears the #7 shirt. Well, if Dale Jago returns, I feel that he should get priority on this matter, and before any of you start screaming 'bias', I'm not the only one who feels this way. If Baron Von Kleinendorst does give Miller the #7 shirt, it is then that you can start screaming 'bias/favouritism'. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Also, someone had a very special day on June 7. If anyone out there knows him, pass on my regards and that I said that I hope all went well, from the Horndog (he should know who I am). Lastly, Stephanie (DJ's towel), could you tell me exactly where you are in the world? You may have already let me know on E-mail, but I haven't had the chance to read it yet. I ask this as I get the impression that you're not in England, and so I just want to know how you know of Dale. That's it, gotta go.

Comments: To All Storm Supporters: First of all, I would like to extend my gratitude to all of the truly loyal Manchester Storm fans. I wish the players the best of luck, however I feel that the organization as a whole has taken a step in the wrong direction by more or less starting over with basically a new crop of players and especially a new coach and general manager. John Lawless was very good for British ice hockey. He admits to not being the best coach, but he always seemed to put together a winning side. He had one bad season out of many and it's what have you done for me lately. It's difficult to establish chemistry with all new players. All of the players whose contracts were not renewed will find another team, but I don't think it's fair that we are in this position. I want to thank John Lawless for everything. Bye for now.

Comments: Grace - you say that we have 3 new netminders and not one of them is Finnie and you want something done, I suggest that you go and see a shrink if you think Finnie was good - he was the worst netminder in the Superleague, only the kids liked him. Nuff said.

Comments: Hands up who can't wait till August? There are going to be some big changes to the team next season not least of all the dissappearance (?) of Nick 'Nutty Joe everyone loves me' Poole and Jeff 'I couldn't get a more orange looking fake tan' Sebastian - Where did he get it from! He looked overcooked. Maybe he bought it as the same time as a certain Stephen Cooper, if it wasn't fake tan it sure came off quickly because when him and coops turned up to Royales in love train a week later (much to certain peoples delight - you know who you are) he was as white as a sheet. Anyway have to go and revise Cu all at Nynex - role on august Heather
