People still read the old threads.
When new visitors start reading the forum for the first time most read all of the messages - or at least look at the whole list.
Also, I'm setting up a search engine soon so you'll be able to search the whole site including all the forum messages for a particular keyword. So I want to keep all the old messages - there's been about 1200 so far!
