At the end of the 28 game league season the teams will be placed into two groups each comprising four teams.
The teams within each group will play each other twice, once at home and once away, in a round robin league, therefore playing a total of 6 games
The winners of each group will play the runner-up of the other group in a 3 game semi-final.
The winners of each semi-finalwill play in the Championshiop final at the Nynex on 28th March 1998. The losing semi-finalists also get to play at the Nynex on the same day in a 3rd/4th place play-off
No one seems to know for sure which league positions will make up the groups - There are several threads discussing this.
I dont know if the semi-final winners are determined by games won or aggregate goals, or some other combination that the ISL has dreamt up, Perhaps there is somebody out there who does?
Hope this helps
